Mother's Day 2013 at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. That year, instead of my husband doing the usual and giving me a bouquet, I opted for him to take me to see the flowers bloom.

True, you need a lot more time to experience Dubai. But, if planned intelligently, even 48 hours in Dubai is enough to capture the essence of the city on a whirlwind ride.
Read MoreIt was my first cruise ever, and of course, the cruise itself should warrant its own post. This was the final day, and it was the only stop where we dropped anchor, instead of actually docking. I daresay that was pretty cool. We had this view of the arch, El Arco de Cabo San Lucas, from our balcony. People went on tours to go closer and around it, which I had been curious about as I had seen numerous pictures of this rock formation.
Read MoreWell hey, it’s St. Patrick’s day anyway. I found this photo that my dad took of me, caught in the act. A lot of things come to mind when I see this picture. I remember how we took a bus from the east coast of Ireland in Dublin, to the west coast of County Clare. From Galway, we made our way to the Burren, to see the iconic Cliffs of Moher.
Read MoreOur dad has told me countless times how often he would bring me to this beach as a kid; not just for the view or the opportunity for father-daughter bonding, but to help me with my breathing. When I was young, I suffered some respiratory problems, and the sea, it is believed (by those who lived in this part of the globe, at least), has curative powers.
Read MoreThere's the standard wish list one hopes to get when they book a hotel room - spacious room, high floor, with a view - that sort of thing. These do come with the price you pay, as most things about location, comfort and style do. But there are these basic things that we all know are necessary, but just appear to be missing. Read MoreA photo is but a second (well, more or less for you shutterbugs out there) of the entire experience - captured, eternalized, relived. Every one is just a moment of a story, in the chapter of our lives that brought us to that instant.
So, we're starting a collection within our blog called GTGL Snippets - a photo (or 2), and the story behind the shot. There's only so much you can write to caption a photo on Instagram, but there's so much to share. And we'll do just that.
Read MoreWe weren’t looking for anything grand. A quick jaunt to anywhere would do. I remembered that One World Observatory officially opened its doors to the public in May, and figured heading out to New York City, which we haven’t done since we checked out the 5th Avenue holiday display last winter, wouldn’t be a bad idea. And because we’re celebrating our 10th and 15th, we thought we’d up the ante with a dinner at One Dine.
Read MoreIt took us a year after my husband’s stroke before we started traveling again further than visiting relatives 2 hours away. The little overnight stays at families’ and day trips certainly helped us prepare for our first plane ride since, and we’ve definitely gotten better each time. Here are some things I make sure are ready prior to boarding.
Read MoreEveryone will say, you must take the off-the-beaten path. But then they will also say, there are must-sees that you just cannot miss. So really, it would depend on what you’re really looking for. Our travel focus is usually around history, architecture, and food. With the help of friends who frequent Boston, locals I’ve connected with, subscriptions to travel magazines, and guidebooks, here’s a suggested itinerary that worked for us first time visitors. Much like any major city, 48 hours is not enough to explore Boston. But for 48 hours, I do think it’s possible to get some sense of the city - its geography, its food, and even its people.
Read MoreWhen you have several heads of households going on a trip, that’s several folks who are used to making the call for pretty much everything in their family lives on a regular basis.
Several of them can even be trip planners themselves. Though some of them are probably more often just financiers. There’s numerous considerations: logistics, multiple wish lists, multiple personalities, the list could go on. Here’s some things that have helped me plan trips with multiple families.
