Veni, Vidi, Bibi: Libations in Miami Beach - Two of the World's Top Bars

While some people look forward to the yearly Oscars or Grammies, I eagerly await the annual list of the world's top 50 bars. This year's awards ceremony took place on Thursday, October 5, when I happened to be getting off a cruise ship in Miami. Noticing that 2 of the top 50 were in Miami Beach, it seemed a visit was in order.

48 Hours on Oahu: Island Adventure and Relaxation

Get up early.

That’s my best advice for a two-day stay on my beautiful island of Oahu — though it would be the same if you were here for two weeks or two months. Not only is there so much to do that every hour counts, but some of the sweetest experiences can be savored only at dawn.

Tried & Tested: Sure Wins When You Pass Through Carmel-by-the-Sea

There’s just something about towns with prepositions in it. ‘By-the-sea’, ‘upon-Avon’ - okay, those are the only two I can think of at this moment. But, because the town is relative to a place, it already gives you something to visualize.

I've been coming to Carmel for years, but always just passing through - either while staying at Monterey, or to drive people along the 17 mile drive in Pebble Beach. For a three-day getaway to the California coast, this time, we decided to stay in the quaint artistic town of Carmel-by-the-Sea.

48 Hours in Aarhus, Jutland, Denmark

In Copenhagen, as we chatted with strangers and they asked what else did we have planned during our trip to Denmark, I mentioned we were going to Aarhus (pronounced oar-hus). Most of the people we talked to have not been there, but everyone said they’ve heard it was beautiful. When I was planning our trip, I thought Aarhus was going to be more like my base to travel around Jutland. But actually, this university town is a veritable destination on its own.

That time when we took a 'basic' tour of Coron

Coron is part of the Calamian Group of Islands, which serves as a jumping point for island-hopping adventures to other islands in the area as well as for the wide-range of exciting activities Palawan has to offer: snorkeling, scuba diving, hiking and trekking, and so much more.

Despite the generic itinerary template arranged by our tour operator, nothing about our three-days-two-nights package was a basic experience.

A Trip to Victorian London at The Great Dickens Christmas Fair

As we took a stroll down the Grand Concourse, and allowed ourselves to be part of a story, we met a detective helping out a lady find her mother's dog, a widow who scared the crap out of my husband as she asked for directions to the graveyard (I tried to comfort her by giving her a hug 🤗), a drunkard passed out by the docks, a wench trying to make her living, a lady smitten after getting a kiss on the cheek from the prince of Wales, boys yelling out names they have telegrams and roses for, and even Ebenezer Scrooge post the scrooge.

The Great Smoky Mountains National Park

With over 10 million visitors in 2015, the Great Smoky National Park is the most visited national park in the United State. Hiking trails, waterfalls, and scenic overlooks all combine to make this a splendid place to spend a vacation.

We spent three days at the park, and even though we hiked a lot of trails, and saw a lot of natural sites, we did not scratch the surface of what this spectacular place has to offer.

Napa Valley Favorites: Restaurants

Lucky me, this now world-class destination is just in my backyard. We can easily go for coffee, or a Sunday brunch, or make a whole day out of it with a wine tasting tour. We're definitely all for trying something new, But there's definitely those places that we know when we crave for a specific thing, we know exactly where to go - the tried and tested, where we won't be leaving the satisfaction of our cravings to chance.

For a city like Dubai, which is home to the world’s best skyscrapers, glittering attractions, bustling markets and sumptuous food, 48 hours doesn’t seem enough. True, you need a lot more time to experience Dubai. But, if planned intelligently, even 48 hours in Dubai is enough to capture the essence of the city on a whirlwind ride.

NYC: One World Observatory

We weren’t looking for anything grand. A quick jaunt to anywhere would do. I remembered that One World Observatory officially opened its doors to the public in May, and figured heading out to New York City, which we haven’t done since we checked out the 5th Avenue holiday display last winter, wouldn’t be a bad idea.  And because we’re celebrating our 10th and 15th, we thought we’d up the ante with a dinner at One Dine.

48 Hours in Boston for the First Time

Everyone will say, you must take the off-the-beaten path. But then they will also say, there are must-sees that you just cannot miss. So really, it would depend on what you’re really looking for. Our travel focus is usually around history, architecture, and food. With the help of friends who frequent Boston, locals I’ve connected with, subscriptions to travel magazines, and guidebooks, here’s a suggested itinerary that worked for us first time visitors. Much like any major city, 48 hours is not enough to explore Boston. But for 48 hours, I do think it’s possible to get some sense of the city - its geography, its food, and even its people.
