My Viking Story: Romantic Danube with Viking River Cruises - Budapest to Nuremberg

This will be a series of posts - My Viking Story. Because it does warrant that. But, I wanted to write sort of an overview post because along the way, there were some things I knew we did right, and some of them we could have done better. So I was able to collect some tips to share with all of you so you can get the most out of your Viking Cruises experience.

GTGL Snippets: Paris, France - My First Love

I could definitively say that with France, I had such a love for it. The sort of love that has understanding despite the mystery; that sees beauty in literally everything, that it can do no wrong; the one that feels a connection despite the distance.

48 Hours in Aarhus, Jutland, Denmark

In Copenhagen, as we chatted with strangers and they asked what else did we have planned during our trip to Denmark, I mentioned we were going to Aarhus (pronounced oar-hus). Most of the people we talked to have not been there, but everyone said they’ve heard it was beautiful. When I was planning our trip, I thought Aarhus was going to be more like my base to travel around Jutland. But actually, this university town is a veritable destination on its own.

GTGL Snippets: 2012 Serpentine Pavilion, London, England

A visit to the Serpentine Gallery and enjoying the annual summer pavilion may be pedestrian for some, but for us, it was a bucket list item. More than seeing the pavilion, or the specific installation at the time. It was about seeing the idea behind an annual installation from the most brilliant architects and artists in the world.

GTGL Snippets: Florence, Tuscany, Italy

Even before I visited Florence, it already seemed like a memory. Distinctly a memory, not an imagination.

If you've come across The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows, John Koenig invented the word "moledro". As I learned about the Renaissance in school, and immersed myself in reading about, it seemed I had that moledro feeling with every character I encountered.

A "Hygge" Dinner at Kadeau, Copenhagen

My unique experience at Kadeau is that hygge experience - in the sense that "I'm about to devour some very fine food, but it feels like it's winter at my own dream cottage up in the mountains and I'm about to snuggle up next to the fireplace, hot tea in hand, audible book ready to play" sort of feeling. Fine and refined but casual and cozy.

GTGL Snippets: The London Eye, Champagne Experience

In that 30-minute cycle, we were able to take the pictures we wanted, walk about leisurely without bumping into other people, thus allowing us to really appreciate what London has to offer from such a unique vista.

GTGL Snippets: Via dell’Amore, Cinque Terre, Italy

In 2012, my husband, Jesús, and I spent a week in Liguria, at the famed Cinque Terre. During our stay, we hiked the stretch of Monterosso al Mare to Vernazza, Vernazza to Corniglia, then Manarola to Riomaggiore. Much to my dismay (with some slight gratitude, though), at the time of our visit, the Corniglia to Manarola hiking path had been closed. I say slight gratitude because my husband surely would have been energetic enough to do a straight hike across the 5 lands, which I know would’ve been an amazing accomplishment. But, realistically, I don’t think I would have been able to keep up. This particular stretch of the hike was the easiest though, since it’s all been paved, and it is a veritable street really, just with more breathtaking views than your average strada.

Girls Just Wanna Have... Paris

I’ve just returned from my two week extravaganza trip in Paris. My girlfriend and I packed our bags together - she picked the clothes, and I picked our makeup - and we set off to Paris.

Well hey, it’s St. Patrick’s day anyway. I found this photo that my dad took of me, caught in the act. A lot of things come to mind when I see this picture. I remember how we took a bus from the east coast of Ireland in Dublin, to the west coast of County Clare. From Galway, we made our way to the Burren, to see the iconic Cliffs of Moher.

The Hillside & Beachside Town of Villefranche-sur-Mer

Technically now a suburb of Nice, and right next to it, is the town of Villefranche-sur-Mer. It isn’t the only place in the French Riviera where you can see the hills and coast in one point of view. Monaco is another, but that has an entirely different vibe.
